The ashram is on six acres of land, we plough the fields with bullocks, keep cows, there is no electricity. The devotees, fifteen in number, live very simple. A big Tulasi garden is there. The Jagannatha, Baladeva, Subadra, and Sudarshan are carved from the same log as Jagannatha in Jagannatha Puri. These deities were worshiped by Brahmanas in Puri until one day the Lord indicated to that Brahman Family that they wish to come to Danda Bhanga and in a similar way we got the deities of Radha Krishna that had been worshiped for over three hundred years from another Brahman family . Recently two old sannyasis of the Ramanuja Sampradaya who visited our Ashram told that in this Temple purity was being maintained and that they felt welcome. They were very impressed with the environment there and said rarely in our lives have we visited a temple like this. Following the teachings of Lord Caitanya all are welcomed at Danda Bhanga, where 500 years ago Mahaprabhu got his Danda broken and Brugu muni had his ashram here. So many other interesting lila's have also taken place here.

The age of Kali and the incarnation of the Deliverer of Kali:
kaler dosa-nidhe rajann

(S.B 12.3.51)

(S.B.11.5.32)

(mahabharat-danadharma-149 ch.)
My dear King, although Kali-yuga is an ocean of faults, there is still one good quality about this age: Simply by chanting the Hare Krsna mahä-mantra, one can become free from material bondage and be promoted to the transcendental kingdom.
In the age of Kali, intelligent persons perform congregational chanting to worship the incarnation of Godhead who constantly sings the names of Krsna. Although His complexion is not blackish, He is Krsna Himself. He is accompanied by His associates, servants, weapons and confidential companions.
"In His early pastimes He appears as a householder with a golden complexion. His limbs are beautiful, and His body, smeared with the pulp of sandalwood, seems like molten gold. In His later pastimes He accepts the sannyäsa order, and He is equipoised and peaceful. He is the highest abode of peace and devotion, for He silences the impersonalist nondevotees."
Those whose potency of brain and level of intelligence is quite low, for them the pastime of Lord Gauranga is almost inconceivable. And therefore inorder to shower His causeless mercy upon one and all, the most munificent Incarnation, Lord Gauranga Sundara has manifested His Supremely hidden and most merciful eternal Dandabhanga Pastime.
One of the great meanings of the word léelä as described by the Srutis inform of the Gopis in the 10th. canto of Srimad Bhagabatam that The Lord's pastime where in The Lord Himself gets and gives pleasure to His devotees and thus by giving pleasure to the devotees enables them to becomes appropriate to His OwnSelf, is otherwise known as Lord's Leela or Pastime. Each conduct of the conditioned Soul has a cause of it's own. However no such cause can be found out in regard to The Sacred Pastime Of The Lord. This is the special affair that takes place in accordance with the great Divine Will Of The Supreme Lord.
krsna-näma, krsna-guna, krsna-léelä-vrnda
krsnera svarüpa-sama-saba cid-änanda
(c.c Madhya 17.135)
"Krsna's holy name, transcendental qualities and transcendental pastimes are all equal to Lord Krsna Himself. They are all spiritual and full of bliss.
Srila Kaviräj Krsnadasa Gosvämi has described Dandabhanga (Breaking of Staff) as Leela (Pastime) Of The Supreme Lord SriKrsna Chaitanya Mahaprabhu.
The all merciful Incarnation Sriman Mahaprabhu very rightly known as the great Deliverer of the fallen conditioned Souls in the dreadful age of Kali, appeared at Sri Dham Mayapur (Navadwip) and has thus manifested His Leela for the period of 48 (Fortyeight) years. The first 24 years of His house hold Leela at Navadwip Dham is known as the Purbardha Leela and the second (Latter) 24 years of His Sanyasa Leela (Out of which 18 years has taken place at Sri Jagannath Puri Dham) is known as the Parardha Leela. And thus, HIS first among the Parardha (Sanyasa) Leela has taken place here at the bank of sacred Bhargabi River located at the heart of SRI JAGANNATH PURI DHAM which is otherwise known as Dandabhanga (Breaking of staff)---NyastaDanda (Installer of The Danda).
This pastime has taken place in 918 säl chandra sukla pakhya (Brightfortnight) phälguna Govinda dvädasi puñyä nakstra Thursday in the month of Caitra, English 1411 A.D morning time on the bank of Sacred Bhärgavi which is the glorious expansion of river Mahänadi.

As 918 säl kept on entering such great fortune has arisen. Thus during the famous Benta Yatra (Festival) Of LORD JAGANATH during the month of Chaitra Madhu, encircled by a group of Vaishnabas, a young aged Sanyäsi has appeared at Srikhetra. It appeared that as if very bright effulgence was rolling down from His shining youthful face. Blissfully reciting the holy name of Lord Hari thus the moon of Sachi entered into the Khetra; Whose form appeared like full moon and mood was absolutely without duplicity. The revelation of His sober nature appeared in conformity with the beauty of the danda(staff) and kamandalu (water pot) Like an innocent child the sweet smile that emanated from His face kept engaged in melodious singing the Name of Radha-Radha. The moon of Nadiä thus came in dvädasi tithi which happened to be the Thursday. All the citizens had gone to take the darsan of the new youth and thus their life, vision and mind were completely filled in with ecstasy in seeing the new youth. In a tilted way of walking, the young Sanyasi entered into Sri mandir while the entire Universe was resounded with the holy Haribol. In this way who had the fortune of the darsan of That Lord attained the supreme success of birth. Thus have gone back upon hearing the unmanifested pastime and the holy Name that emanated from the sacred mouth of Gaura Chandra.
The Supreme Personality Of God-head LORD SRIKRSNA, appeared to mother Sachi Devi and father Jaganath Mishra as their Son at Sridham Mayapur(Navadwip)and thus manifested His 24 years long earlier(Purbardha) household Leela. At the fag-end day of this first 24 years of Purbardha(Earlier) Leela, He has decided to enter into the Parardha i.e.the latter 24 years of Sanyasa Leela. On adoption of the thus Sanyasa order of life and in accordance with the wish of mother Sachi Devi, The Lord in the company of Lord Nityananda, Jagadananda, Damodara and Mukunda left for Sri Jagannath Puri otherwise known as Sri Kshetra Sri Niladri Purusottam Dham. In this way The Lord reached the bank of sacred Bhargabi river, ferry-across the river and was very enthusiastically and overjoyously greeted and welcomed by the renowned Bhrugumuni. That was the sacred Ekadasi day of the bright fortnight in the month of Phalguna and The Lord along with His eternal associates Spent the whole day and night in sacred Haribasara (Ecstatic SriHariNam Sankirtana) at the holy land that became unlimited times holier at the Prakata-presence of The Lord.
In the next early morning, with the desire to visit the ancient shrine of Lord Kapateswar Mahadeva(Lord Sivaji) Sriman Mahaprabhu handed over His Danda (Staff) to Lord Nityananda Prabhu and had gone to have a holy deep in the holy water of sacred Bhargabi river. Thus after Sri Chaitanya left for Kapateswar Mahadev, taking advantage of His absence, the inconceivably great potential Lord Nityananda broke the Danda(staff) of Sriman Mahaprabhu into three pieces and put the same into the stream of the sacred water of river Bhargabi. That this Dandabhanga Pastime has taken place in accordance with the Own will of Sriman Mahaprabhu SriKrsna Chaitanya Chandra, has been very nicely explained by Srila Krsnadas Kaviraj Goswami in Sri Chaitanya Charitamrita after his so realization.
ìho kene danda bhänge, tenho kene bhängäya
bhängäna krodhe tenho inhäke dosäya
(c.c Madhya 5.157)
The devotees could not understand the mystery about why Nityänanda Prabhu broke the staff, why Sri Caitanya Mahäprabhu permitted Him to do so, or why, after permitting Him, Caitanya Mahäprabhu expressed anger over Him(Lord Nityananda) ?
danda-bhanga-léelä ei-parama gambhira
sei bujhe, dunhära pade yänra bhakti dhira
(c.c Madhya 5.158)
The pastime of the breaking of the staff is very deep. Only one whose devotion is fixed upon the lotus feet of the two Lords can understand it.
This pastime is the very first part in the second half pastime of Sriman Mahaprabhu and this pastime is mentioned as supremely deep. This word "parama"is never used everywhere. The word "parama" means 'supreme'. And this word 'parama' is never used anywhere else in the unlimited pastime of Sriman Mahäprabhu. 'Gambhira' or Gabhira as mentioned in the earlier edition of Sri Chaitanya Charitamrita means unlimitedly deep that has no last limit-no end.
This pastime is ananta, asesa means Balaräm-Ananta and Sesadeva is His second and third name. He Himself in form of Nityänanda appeared along with Sri Krsña Caitanya and thus Sriman Mahaprabhu performed this eternal pastime through Him(Lord Nityananda Prabhu). This is very very mysterious, highest and supreme.
The Lord is supremely auspicious. His every single arrangement is for the supreme well-fare for everyone-all the living entities. Every single pastime of The Lord implies different significance. The Lord fulfils His different wishes through different pastimes. Although breaking of the staff Leela has been carried out by the sacred will of Sriman Mahäprabhu, yet, He has expressed somewhat outward anger.
suni' kichu mahäprabhu duùkha prakäsilä
isat krodha kari' kichu kahite lägilä
(c.c Madhya 5.152)
After hearing the story about how His staff had been broken, the Lord expressed a little sadness and, displaying a bit of anger, began to speak as follows.
tumi-saba äge yäha Isvara dekhite
kibä ämi äge yäi, nä yäba sahite
(c.c Madhya 5.154)
"So all of you should go before or behind Me to see Lord Jagannätha. I shall not go with you."
mukunda datta kahe,--prabhu, tumi yäha äge
ämi-saba päche yäba, nä yäba tomära sange
(c.c Madhya 5.155)
Mukunda Datta told to Sri Caitanya Mahäprabhu, "My Lord, You should go ahead and allow all the others to follow. We shall not go with You."
eta suni' prabhu äge calilä sighra-gati
bujhite nä päre keha dui prabhura mati
(c.c Madhya 5.156)
Sri Caitanya Mahäprabhu then began to walk very swiftly before all the other devotees. No one could understand the real purpose of the two Lords, Caitanya Mahäprabhu and Nityänanda Prabhu.
When Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu alone first of all entered into the temple of Lord Jagannatha, immediately He was fainted with great ecstatic emotion. Had there been Lord Nityananda, Jagadananda, Damodara and Mukunda, remained present, they would have surely taken care of Sriman Mahaprabhu at that situation. But Mahäprabhu was alone and therefore Särvabhauma took that great advantage. Perhaps this was the reason for the wish of Sriman Mahäprabhu to visit Srimandira(The Temple Of Lord Jaganath) alone. This is how Sriman Mahäprabhu blessed his first disciple in Nilächala. As there are both the internal and external reasons of the appearance of Sriman Mahaprabhu so also incase of the Dandabhanga Pastime of the Lord. Where as the external reason of the appearance of Sriman Mahäprabhu is to preach Yugadharma
i.e.Sri Harinam Sankirtana, but the internal reason is-----
Sri-rädhäyäh pranaya-mahimä kidrso vä nayaivä-
svädyo yenädbhuta-madhurimä kidrso vä madiyah
saukhyam cäsyä mad-anubhavatah kidrsåm veti lobhät
tad-bhävädhyah samajani SacI-garbha-sindhau harinduh
Desiring to understand the glory of Rädhäräni's love, the wonderful qualities in Him that She alone relishes through Her love, and the happiness She feels when She realizes the sweetness of His love, the Supreme Lord Hari, richly endowed with Her emotions, appeared from the womb of Srimati Saci-devi, as the moon appears from the ocean.
The supreme personality of Godhead SRIKRSNA is unlimitedly full of six opulence's i.e. wealth, strength, fame, beauty, knowledge and renunciation. All these unlimitedly and completely remain ever present in Him. SriKrsna Himself appeared as SriKrsnaChaityana. Hence automatically He is the possessor of the absolute renunciation of all kind. Therefore like a common sanyäsi there is no need for Him to carry the staff. Considering the same, Lord Nityänanda broke the staff into three pieces and threw into the river Bhärgavi. This is the external cause of the Dandabhangä léelä. But it has an internal cause as well. Therefore Krsnadas Kaviräj Goswami says, 'sei bujhe, dunhära pade yänra bhakti dhira'. Only one whose devotion is fixed upon the lotus feet of the Two Lords can understand it. Otherwise this is 'supremely hidden and unlimitedly deep', By no means it's bottom can be touched. Only by the causeless mercy of Sriman Gauranga Mahaprabhu and Lord Nityänanda, glimpse of it can be realized.
Especially for the devotees, the sacred land of Dandabhangä léelä is the great destination of pilgrimage of eternal pastime of Sriman Mahaprabhu & Lord Nityananda Prabhu. By the virtue of all auspicious bathing of Sriman Mahaprabhu and the installation of His Staff, Dandabhanga léelä tirtha that has been largely identified with the sacred river Bhärgavi at that particular place of occurrence, became one of the most exalted places of great pilgrimage. It is not that it was never a place of pilgrimage before. Since long, this place has been remaining as a sacred place of pilgrimage and at the outskirts of it, at certain point, Lord Kapatesvara Dev remains present as the custodian of the Tirtha(place of pilgrimage) since time immemorial. There is a description about Lord Kapatesvara in Skanda Puräna. In the book "Sri Goura Krsnådoya, published by H.D.G. Srila Bhakti Siddhanta Saraswati Prabhupad Ji Maharaj, this place has been described as 'Kapatesvara Desam'.(The State of Kapatesvara).
Once in Tretayä Yuga Maryädä Purusottama Lord Sri Rämchandra in the company of Mother Sita-Devi and younger brother Laksman were traveling around this place. In a nearby sacred lake, Lord Siva Ji was immersed in watersports activities with his eternal consort mother Parvati Devi. Suddenly seeing Their Supreme Lordships Sri Ramachandra Mahaprabhu, Mother Sita Devi & Lord Laxman Ji; Lord Siva Ji and Parvati Devi out of too much shy, got themselves hidden in the close by forest in form of a male dove and female dove. But who can hide himself or herself out of the sight of The Supreme Lord.? In order to commemorate this amazing pastime, The most merciful Lord Sri RamaChandra has installed the Lingam over there, named the same as Lord Kapateswara and made formal worship of Lord Siva Ji, who is the chief among the devotees. Since then Lord Siva Ji became renowned as Kapatesvara over there at that place. Now just out side of the sanctum, a huge Lingam is seen. As per the legend, this Lingam has been installed by Sriman Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, during His visit to the discussed temple of Lord Kapatesvara. Sriman Mahaprabhu Who is The Supreme Personality of GodHead KRSNA, Himself in form of His devotee made this site as a very sacred place of great pilgrimage through the performances of His the thus pastime in this present age of kali.
The word Bhärgavi means daughter of Bhärgadeva or the Sun God. One can see how Kälindi; Kalinda nandini(daughter of Kalinda),has been narrated and named as Yamuna in Srimad Bhägavatam. Similarly this branch of Bhärgavi is the expansion of Yamunä herselfs. On the most auspicious occasion of SRIKRSNA JANMASTAMI, at the Mangala Ghat site(close to Puri) of this sacred river, people still celebrate Maha Yamunä Snana. During His stay at Sri Jaganath Puri, Mahäprabhu Himself used to very ecstatically share the joy in taking part in this great bathing ceremony popularly known as
Maha Yamunä Snana. This has also got a very deep and ecstatic heritage value. Earlier the name of this river was Kanja, which means lotus & nectar. The taste of the water of this river was like that of the nectar. On different banks of this river, many lotus used to grow and thus enhances the scenic presentability of the site. Therefore, at the site of this river, where the great Dandabhanga pastime has taken place was known by then as Kamalapura.(Kamala means Lotus Flower). After the manifestation of the great Dandabhanga pastime of Lord Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, this Kanja river came to be known as river Dandabhanga.
Two miles upward from the site of the Dandabhanga pastime of The Lord is the location of a place named as Gangä Näräyänapur. There, an extremely ancient shrine having the sacred Deities of Ganga Devi and Lord Narayana is situated. At this site Ganga Devi appeared out of the sacred Bhargabi river. A very thrilling story about the same has been often heard from the people of that generation down to the present one. At the Ghat of Ganga-Narayanapur people numbering to thousands and thousands take part in Maha Maha Baruni Snana(Great great Baruni Bath)every year during the month of Chaitra. This great event is also popularly known as Maha Ganga Snana. Because at Prayäg, Gangä, Yamunä and Sarasvati unitedly flows to-gether, therefore the thus great meeting site is otherwise known as Yukta beni Tirtha .The great sage Bharadvaja has established his Ashram over there. Likewise at the site of the great Dandabhanga Leela (pastime) three branches of the holy river are situated over there. However as all the three streams are separately flowing, therefore the site here is otherwise known as Mukta Veni Tirtha. Although these three rivers are not the direct gross expansion of Ganga, Yamuna and Sarasvati, yet their very original manifestation as has been explained in different palm leaf manuscripts. Even the great glorification of Bhargabi especially made in the famous Murari Gupta's kadcha(diary) and the glorification made even in the great Srimad Bhagabatam can be referred to in this regard. In Rasa Leela, a great, great number of Forms have been expanded from One Original Eternal Form Of The Supreme Personality of God-Head SRIKRSNA. This kind of potency remains present in both BHAGABAN(The Supreme Personality Of GodHead) and His pure devotees. To site an example, the story of Saubhari Muni as narrated in Srimad Bhagabatam can be referred to. Hence there is nothing to doubt about the same(different manifestation of the holy river).
As has been heard from both the saintly and very elderly personalities of the present and the past generations, this Bhargabi and it's above referred site is extremely perfect and purified Yogasite of Bharga Deva-SunGod. In which ever direction(Southern or Northern) the Sun may remains at, the first ray of the rising Sun falls on this site of the holy water from where three separate streams of water can be seen even at present. Therefore, Bhrugu muni, the best among the sages has established both of his yajna Kunda(Fire Sacrifice) as well as monastery over here and thus the very original Deities worshiped by Maharsi Bhrugumuni continue to be worshiped in a nearby monastery still called as Bhrugu muni Ashram.
SRIKRSNA,The Supreme Personality Of GodHead declares In Srimad BhagabadGitä:- "maharsinäm bhruguraham" among the sages I am Bhrugu. Therefore, the site, based upon the significance of which, one of the expansions of KRSNA, has established his Ashram, can not be an ordinary site. Bhrugumuni was extremely effulgent. Once with a great mission, he had first left for Brahmaloka and met Lord Brahma Ji; further in his next move he, met Lord Siva Ji and finally met Lord Sri Vishnu in the great khira sagar (ocean of milk)Inorder to examine the Godly qualities of God(Lord Sri Vishnu Ji) and finding Him at a deep state of sleep, Bhrugumuni kicked at His chest by feet. However on the contrary, The Lord, Who is very dear to His devotees after softly rubbing Bhrugumuni's feet, asked in an extremely calm manner with this saying that Oh, the great sage, coming in contact with My thunder-bolt like chest, are you not hurt at your feet? The footprint of Bhrugumuni is always seen at the sacred chest of The Lord. The Manu Smruti, compiled by Manu and considered to be the constitution of human society, has been read by Bhrugumuni in the great assembly of sages and seers. From the legendary evidences, it is very strongly believed that Maharsi Bhrugumuni has compiled, the renowned Astrological doctrine Bhrugu Samhita that narrates about the past, present and future of every human being over here at this great site of the Dandabhanga Leela Bhumi. In course of time, the fire sacrifice site of Bhrugumuni has been submerged in the water of the sacred Bhargabi. The proof about the fact that Bhrugumuni has founded his Ashram over there, is well narrated in the famous Vaishnaba doctrine "Chaitanya Chakada" by Sri Govind Dasa, the other most intimate associate of The Supreme Lord Sriman Chaitanya Mahaprabhu.

While getting the darsan of Kapateswar Ji, remaing at the height of great ecstatic emotion and as such seeing the eternal great transcendental forms of The Supreme Lord SRI JAGANATH---- KRSNACHANDRA and thus with the intense remembrance of Those Two Great Transcendental Forms, Lord Gaura Chandra has started reciting the stotras(verses based upon the prayer offered to the Supreme Lord).Seeing His such great ecstatic state, Lord Nityananda Prabhu who was holding the Danda(staff) broke the same into three pieces and put into the water of the river. The mood of I'ness and I am one with the omnipresent THE, to-gether with the Danda(Staff) floated away along the stream of river Bhargabi. Thus the Danda(Staff) continued to float and finally reached at the bank of the river Bhargabi located near the Ashram of Bhrugumuni. Thereafter the Vaishnabas at large named the river as Dandabhanga.
That staff is uncommon. Although appearance wise the staff looks similar to that of the staff of the general sanyasis, yet it is very exclusive, special and absolutely transcendental. As the difference in between the mundane lust and transcendental love has been described by Srila Kaviraj Krsnadas Goswami in the last part of the eighth chapter of the madhyaléelä of SriCaitanya Caritämrita through the conversation between Sriman Chaitanya Mahaprabhu & Rai Ramananda; similar is the difference between the ordinary staff hold by a common sanyasi and the great eternal staff of The
Supreme Lord Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu. The prayer offered by Srila Sarbabhauma Bhatacharya to Sriman Mahaprabhu may be taken into consideration in this regard.
vairägya-vidyä-nija-bhakti-yoga-
sikhyärtham ekah purusah puräna
Sri-krsna-caitanya-sarira-dhäkrpambudhir yas tam aham prapadye
(Caitanya Candrodaya Act-6, text-268)
"Let me take shelter of the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Sri Krsna, who has descended in the form of Lord Caitanya Mahäprabhu to teach us real knowledge, His devotional service, and detachment from whatever does not foster Krsna consciousness. He has descended because He is an ocean of transcendental mercy. Let me surrender unto His lotus feet."
kalan nastam bhakti-yogam nijam yah
praduskartum krsna-caitanya-nama
avirbhutas tasya padaravinde
gadham gadham Iiyatam citta-bhrngah
(Caitanya Candrodaya Act-6, text-269)
"Let the honeybee of my mind dive deep into the lotus feet of Sri Krsna Caitanya Mahaprabhu, who is the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Krsna Himself. He has appeared to revive the path of unalloyed devotion, which had almost become lost due to the influence of time."
To give the identification about that staff, he described in his own "Sacitanyästakam" as durjana kalmasa khandana dandam .The Danda that vanquishes all the sins of the sinners. Similarly Padakartä Sripad Vaishnava Däs in his "Ananta Padakalpataru" also stated while describing the six armed form of Sriman Mahaprabhu
tad adha hin duikara kamandalu danda
jäte kali kalmasa päsanda khanda
The half of that is the two armed form holding kamandalu with Danda that smashes all the evil qualities by destroying those into pieces. From this conclusion it is seen that the danda at the sacred Hand of Sriman Mahaprabhu is inconceivably uncommon and unparallel and hence It is act of foolishness to compare the same with the danda hold by a common sanyäsi. In the context of His this Dandabhanga pastime Sriman Mahaprabhu speaks to His own eternal associates like that of Lord Nityananda Prabhu etc. that:-
"Nilachale ani mora sabe hita kaila:sabe danda dhana chhila tahana rakhila(S.C.C-5/153)
By bringing Me to Nilachala, you have caused a great well-fare to Me; however could not secure and keep the Danda, My only asset and wealth
"durjana kalmasa khandana dandam tvam pranamami cha Sri Sachitanayam" and "dandadhruk nystadandakrut."
From these two verses of Sri Sarbabhauma Bhattacharya it is clearly revealed that Mahaprabhu and His Danda are nondifferent. That means in form of installation of His Own Danda
Mahaprabhu, Himselfs eternally remains present over there at that eternal transcendental Leela Bhumi.
The Leela Madhurya(Sweetness of Leela), Rupa Madhurya(Sweetness of Handsome Form), Rati Madhurya(Sweetness of Relishable Mellow) and Venu Madhurya(Sweetness Emanates out of The Flute) are some exclusive manifestation of the divine opulences( out of the unlimited ocean of the mellow of the transcendental love) of The Unlimited Supreme Absolute Lord SRIKRSNA. That the great Flute of KRSNA is the Danda of Gaura, that has been well explained in the Own words of Sriman Mahaprabhu in Chaitanya Mangala-
ämi ye sakala chädi karilu sanyäsa
tumi nä chädile more janme ajnme vämsa
räma avatäre tumi dhanuka hayän
rahile ämäre hate dustera lägiyä
krsna avatäre vamsi hayä mora kare
mohita karila tume akhila samsäre
ebe danda hayän mora äilä karete
kali yuge päsända dalana hetu rite
Giving up everything I accepted sanyäsa, but 'O bamboo you could not give up me'. In Räma Avatara(Incarnation)in form of bow and arrow, you remained at My hand for the sake of the wickeds. In Krsna Avatara ( Incarnation) remaining in form of The Flute, You deeply immersed the entire cosmic
world And now in form of the Danda, You have come to My hand in order to vanquishes the apostate.
Subject in context with the meeting of Madhaba and Umadhaba
(The Supreme Lord and His chief Devotee)
In Srimad Bhagabatam Diti offered her prayer to Lord Siva Ji
'Siväya nyasta dandäya dhruta dandäya manyave'
This is perhaps interesting to note here that in the above text of Srimad Bhagabatam Lord Sivaji is addressed as both installer and holder of Danda and Sriman Mahaprabhu has also addressed as the Installer and holder of Danda in the prayer of Sri Sarbabhauma Bhatacharya. And more interesting is the fact that the Dandabhanga pastime of Sriman Mahaprabhu had taken place near the ancient shrine of Lord Kapateswar (Siva ji) that too during Mahaprabh's visit to the shrine where in the Lingam has been installed by no less than Sriman Mahaprabhu Himself in His Incarnation of Lord Sri Ramachandra as described above in the Skanda purana.
There is no destruction of what so ever kind of the spiritual substance. Besides, in actuality there is no difference inbetween one and many vis-à-vis many and one. While describing the nature of the Soul, The Supreme Personality of GodHead SRIKRSNA, explained in Srimad Bhagabat Gita that the Soul is unbreakable and insoluble, It cannot be cut into pieces. Where as the Souls who are the subjective variegated atomic expansion of God are indestructible and imperishable then how can God, Who expands Himselfs in form of His Danda, can be broken into pieces. Hence although in Leela, the Danda appeared to have been broken into pieces but in truth remains as the same undivided one. Even in material field, if some one breaks a dry firewood into pieces, the fire never gets divided to pieces in truth although it so appears outwardly When such is the case in the material sphere, then what to speak of the undivided-inseparable-eternal oneness of the great spiritual substance.
There is a description in the fourteenth chapter of Chaitanya Bhagabatam that the Dandabhanga pastime of the Lord has taken place on the bank of river Subarnarekha in the East Indian State of Northern Orissa. But neither in the past nor in the present the river Suvarnarekhä has ever been addressed as Dandabhanga. However, all the rest of the renowned Vaishnaba Scriptures unanimously identifies the sacred river Bhargabi and it's bank as the eternal Leela Bhumi of Dandabhanga pastime of Sriman Mahapraprabhu. From the text 141to143 of Madhya Leela of Sri Caitanya Caritämrita:-
kamalapure äsi bhärginadi-snäna kaila
nityänanda-häte prabhu danda dharila

When Sri Caitanya Mahäprabhu arrived at Kamalapura, He took His bath in the Bhärgi river and left His sannyäsa staff at the hands of Lord Nityänanda prabhu. When Lord Caitanya Mahäprabhu had thus gone to the temple of Lord Siva known as Kapatesvara, Nityänanda Prabhu, who was keeping His sannyäsa staff in custody, broke the staff in to three pieces and threw into the river of Bhärgabi. Later on this river came to be known as Danda-bhängä-nadi.
In Sri Caitanya Candrodaya nätaka the same narration is given in regard to the Dandabhanga pastime of the Lord. sixth anka sloka twenty five.

Above description published by H.D.G Bhakti Sidhanta Saraswati
Prabhupad Ji Maharaj clarified that dandabhanga pastime has happened at Kamalapur (past name of Chandanpur) on the bank of river Bhargabi located in state of Kapatesvara.
From the text 8 to 14 of the first chapter in Madhya leela of SriChaitanya Caritamrita Srila Krsnadas Kaviraj Goswami has narrated that:-
pürve kahilu ädi-lilära sütra-gana
yähä vistäriyächena däsa-vrundävana
ataeva tära ämi sütra-mätra kailu
ye kichu visesa, sütra-madhyei kahilu
ebe kahi sesa-lilära mukhya sütra-gana
prabhura asesa léelä nä yäya varnëna
tära madhye yei bhäga däsa-vrundävana
'caitanya-mangale' vistäri' karilä varnana
sei bhägera ihä sütra-mätra likhiba
tänhä ye viseña kichu, ihäì vistäriba
caitanya-lilära vyäsa--däsa vrundävana
tänra ajnaya karoì täìra ucchista charvana
bhakti kari' Sire dhari tänhära charana
sesa-lilära sütra-gaia kariye varnana
I have previously described in synopsis the ädi-lélä [initial pastimes], which have already been fully described by Vrundävana däsa thäkura. I have therefore given only a synopsis of those incidents, and whatever specifics were to be related have already been given in that synopsis. To describe the unlimited pastimes of Sri Caitanya Mahäprabhu is not possible, but I now wish to relate the chief incidents and give a synopsis of those pastimes occurred at the end. I shall describe only in synopsis that portion which Vrundävana däsa thäkura has described very elaborately in his book Caitanya-mangala. Whatever incidents are outstanding, however, I shall later elaborate. Actually the authorized compiler of the pastimes of Sri Caitanya Mahäprabhu is Srila Vrundävana däsa, the incarnation of Vyäsadeva. Only upon his orders I am trying to chew the remnants of food that he has left. Placing his lotus feet upon my head in great devotion, I shall now describe in summary the Lord's final pastimes.
As Dandabhangä léelä is a unique incident therefore, he described the same once again in an elaborate manner. Hence in accordance with the scriptural logic that"purbat parabidhi balaban"(the, latter conclusion is stronger than the former), it has been accepted by all the great authorities, starting from Srila Krsnadas Kaviraj Goswami,Kavi Karnapura, Kanhai Khuntia,Sarbabhauma Bhattacharya,Maharaj Prataprudra Dev and Srila Govinda dasa etc. to Srila Bhakti Sidhanta Saraswati Goswami Prabhupad Ji Maharaj that the supremely merciful and hidden Dandabhanga Leela has taken place on the bank of river Bhargavi, latter on came to be known as river Dandabhanga.
Sri Sri Radha-Madanamohana, Radha-Govinda Dev and Radha-Gopinath symbolically represents-Sambadha(Relationship), Abidheya(Means) and Prayojana(Need) Tattva. Here upon hearing about this inconceivable Leela of Sriman Mahaprabhu, the great devotee king Prataprudra Dev along with devotee queen Janaka Devi, visited the great leela bhumi and was strongly prompted from his within to install the sacred Deity of Lord Dandabhanga Gopinath and erected a temple for His Supreme Lordship Sri Sri Gopinath Dev. On the other hand, we can see that the supreme mercy of Sriman Mahaprabhu is to distribute the extremely rare KRSNA-PREMA, which has been awarded by the Presiding Deity of Prayojana Tattva i.e.the great Prema Tattva. And both SRI SRI Gopinath Dev and Sriman Mahaprabhu in form Of His Danda remains present over there which is incidentally the heartland of Sri Jaganath Puri Dham,SRIJAGANATH-The Maha Bhaba Prakasa Form of the Supreme Lord Srikrsna.
All these put together signifies about how important is this great Leela Bhumi for the attainment of KRSNA Prema, the supreme goal of this rarely achieved human birth.
The same great land of Dandabhanga pastime of Sriman Gauranga Mahaprabhu has been Named differently in different scriptures.
1.) Sri Chaitanya Charitamrita and Sri Chaitanya Chandradoya Natak Kamalapur (kamal means lotus which used to grow at a great number over there by then).
2.) Chaitanya Mangala and Gaura-krsna doya Kapateswara Desa (Lord Kapateswara is the custodian of the Leela Bhumi).
3.) Chaitanya Chakada Budhalinga patana.(Here one can see a very ancient Lingam of Lord Sivaji that has been visited by Sriman Mahaprabhu as well and had His holy deep in the sacred lake located next to the temple of Lord SivaJi). There is another very ancient temple Goddess Barahi Devi. There is an excellent legend behind Goddess Barahi. However without specific scriptural evidences it may not look proper to mention the same over here.
