The purpose of putting these Srila Gour Govinda Swami pages on sevamrta dot com is due to our relationship with HDG Srila Gour Govinda Swami during the 1990s, a relationship that has defined our very existence since then. To share, even just a little of the love and beauty of this rare vaisnava is the entire reason that www.sevamrta.com came into being in the first place.
Srila Gour Govinda Swami gave such clear instructions regarding spiritual life amidst throngs of preachers that made little impact, and, dare I say it, made even less sense, in those days when understanding the goal of life was a consuming priority to so many of us. Nowdays the goal is a little different inasmuch as we are vainly and albeit humbly attempting to follow the path of Bhakti. Whilst following the path may be simultaneously easy and impossibly difficult, Bhakti Herself, as a process as well as a goal can be understood easily enough thanks to the mercy of HDG Srila Gour Govinda Swami, ki jaya!
Download instructions: To download lectures please right click on the desired lecture link(s) and choose "Save Target As" from the resultant drop down menu. If you have a good enough connection a left click will permit you to listen to the lecture in whatever media player your system has as default player. Since the download is the same either way, if you have space on your hard drive you might as well download the lecture so you can share with friends. Feel free to contact us should you have any comments or requests.
Download instructions:
(again, in case you missed them at the top of the table)
To download for offline listening at your leisure and/or repeatedly (hopefully the latter) please right mouse click on the appropriate title, select "Save Target As" from the drop down menu that appears and then, when prompted, choose a destination on your hard drive to where you wish to save and store the lecture.
If you have a good enough connection a left click will permit you to listen to the lecture in whatever media player your system has as default player. Ours open in QuickTime. Since the download is the same either way, if you have space on your hard drive you might as well download the lecture so you can share with friends.
Please click on this link (slow speed internet connections <=128kbps) should you wish to
calculate how long the download(s) will take,
depending upon your internet connection speed: usually up to 56kbps (at best) for dialup, and could be 5, 10 or even 30 times faster with a broadband ADSL (usually from 256kbps to 1.5mbps) connection. For cable connection speeds (approx 45mbps) please contact your provider if unsure of your speed, although at cable speed, download time would probably not be an important issue.
NB The same download times table as displayed on net panel has been shamelessly copied for your convenience and pasted at the
bottom of this page.
Please note. Files on our PC are scanned regularly for viruses and whilst we know that the files we keep on our ISP's server are virus free, we recommend that one always scan all downloaded files with up to date antivirus software as we can offer no guarantees once the files are uploaded to the server.

| Internet download times Published on 4/27/97 Do you often wonder how long it's going to take to download that new browser update? Sometimes it's hard to tell. Will you be waiting for ten minutes or sixty? This Netpanel special feature will show you just how long your downloads will take. So before you start planning your time around a download, take a quick look at this page. The bulk of this special feature is a handy reference table. Find your Internet connection speed along the left-hand side, and the approximate file size along the top. The connection speeds are referred to in bps (bits per second), Kbps (kilobits per second), and Mbps (megabits per second), where applicable. Don't confuse these bit per second rates with bytes per second. For example, a connection speed of 28.8 Kbps would actually download at a rate of 3.5 kilobytes per second in theory, not 28.8 kilobytes per second. Also realize that the times shown in this table are only the theoretical download times. There are many other factors that can affect your rate of download. Keeping this in mind, you may want to use a little discretion when determining a download time.
The times presented in this table are theoretical and therefore claim to be faster than they would be in real-world situations. The reason for this is simple: there are always delays between your modem and the targeted server. Even if you have a 28.8 modem, you'll likely receive slower performance. In some cases, you may only be getting 14.4 performance. Other bottlenecks such as peak traffic on the host server and traffic on your ISP server will also slow downloads. It's recommended to download in the early mornings or other off peak times to avoid slow server performance. |
