Overlooking the Obvious

I'm Ignoring You.

Children are able to accept the most obtuse behavior in their own mind by simply overlooking reality. For adults, our day to day reality is so ubiqiutous that wherever we look, we find it difficult to ignore. Often we "need" to escape and enjoy a night on the town with a few friends, enjoying a few drinks. This permits us to ignore our omnipreset, somewhat oppressive reality. The problems we have get temporarily overlooked, and we have a good time.

Yet, despite the day to day treadmill that overlords our lives and is almost impossible to forget, there is another, much more insidious ignorance that sneaks into our consciousness. Although we probably are not very aware of it, so often we ignore the most obvious things. How often do you go to a hospital to visit a friend or relly and ask them how they are. They are lying in a bed with tubes up their nose and wherever else a tube can go, all bandaged up and still they so often philosophically answer "Oh, I'm fine, thank you."

Aware of it all.

We are all earmarked for difficulty and death, yet we tend to block it out, preferring to look on the bright side, which is OK, as no one likes to be down in the mouth, but let's not lose track of the big picture which includes our transient sojourn in this life.

We work so hard, day after day, just to get the money to work hard again tomorrow, but when asked if we are happy, we reply that we are enjoying our life. Easy to believe if we ignore the reality of the distress we have with family, work, money, illness, etc.

A Bit Pessa-bloody-mistic Arn'tchya?

Pessamism, optomism, communism, plastic prism, social schism. How we view an event does nothing to alter its nature. It may help us to tolerate difficulty but we are still faced with the hardships of life, day after day after day after life after life after life. We will not leave our difficulties behind till we are willing to accept that it's a priority to delete them from our lives by deleting the cause of our difficulties.

What we're in need of is a solution to our problems and difficulties, not a gloss effect. If we look closely at our lives we will recognise that there is actually much to be desired in the way our lives have panned out, and ignoring this fact does nothing to solve the problem. We tend to blame others, or circumstance. However, accepting that it is our karma is the first step to finding the solution as sitting in a fire and blaming everyone else will not stop our suffering. Only when we make an effort to get out of the fire can the pain begin to cease.

It's difficult to accept the fact that we made our own mess and that we need to take steps to alleviate the mess, yet if we don't accept this conclusion, then we are stuck with the mess. Unfortunate but true. We ignore God on a daily basis.

I'm a Churchgoer.

It would be nice if it actually were that easy but to go to church on Sunday or once per month is not what we need; what's being alluded to here is a gradual uplifiting of our overall consciousness and lifestyle. A cleaning up of our act, if you like. Not all at once. Recognition of our need for assistance in this endeavour is our greatest asset.

Getting Assistance.

If we are willing to admit our inability to actually control our moods which, in turn, control us, then we can become humbled enough to turn our thoughts to God. He can and will help us whether we know it or not, and you don't have to become a super goody goody and alienate all your friends and family in the process.

Dial G O D.

It's actually very difficult to extricate ourselves from this web of ignorance that envelopes us, we are so habitually controlled by everything and everyone around us, but by accepting help from a higher source, we can actually find that it is relatively easy. Just like someone who has fallen in the ocean hundreds of miles out to sea. It is an overwhelming task to get back to land, but if someone with a strong boat rescues us, then it is easy. This is where God comes in.
