About Sevamrta

As indicated on the Home page, the Sevamrta website is essentially both for and about Srila Gour Govinda Swami. I originally created Sevamrta.com in about 2002-3 as a way of simultaneously teaching myself web design and glorifying Srila Gour Govinda Swami, until now a site upgrade has been way overdue.

Begging forgiveness for my tardiness.

During the 1990s Srila Gour Govinda Swami graciously consented to become my dear friend, siksa guru, and all round spiritual mentor, to this very day he is still one of the most awsome, sweet and valuable influences upon the kunja of my heart.

Thus Sevamrta is an attempt to glorify my siksa gurudeva, an offering to my dear friend Srila Gour Govinda Swami without who's guidance and instruction I would understand very little of value. He taught us what spiritual life is about and the love and mercy of Srila Gour Govinda Swami helped me to recognise my diksa guru when I finally arrived at his lotus feet.

Glorification of a Sadhu

S imply put, of course the best way to glorify a sadhu is to follow his teachings perfectly and thereby become an ideal, living example of his instructions. This way we not only glorify our gurudeva and the whole guru varga, we perfectly serve Sri Krsna, the lord of our heart and thereby become authorised to spread bhakti to every heart and soul in every town and village. Srila Gour Govinda Swami himself did this.

Myself, held back by my wretched mood of self indulgence and thus an abject failure at bhakti, must admit that following perfectly remains, at least for one such as I, an elusive goal, nevertheless, one time, on Srila Gour Govinda Swami's dissapearance day, Srila Bhaktivedanta Narayana Goswami called upon any disciples of SGGS who were present to glorify their spiritual master.

Srila Narayana Maharaja distinctly said, "What he said", meaning, to us, that one may glorify a sadhu by describing his teachings. Who better to describe the teachings of Srila Gour Govinda Swami than the teacher himself? Thus we are posting as many lectures as we possibly can, to glorify this great soul, Srila Gour Govinda Swami.

We also personally heard many of the original lectures straight from the lotus mouth of SGGS, plus we repeatedly listened to many of the recorded lectures, and thus have formed informed conclusions as to what HDG deemed most important; this is presented on the Teachings page.

Personal approach

This bhakti yoga is a very personal approach to a very personal Lord. Krsna is not just God, Krsna is more than that, Lord Narayana, an expansion of Lord Balarama, is God. He makes it all happen. Krsna is the source of both Balarama and Narayana. He is more than God. He is the source of all things and the complete energy, at His most personal, He is love in person. Understanding this moves me to be personal myself, and although it might seem a little egocentric to write on a website in the first person it's not about me being noticed as much as you being able to relate to me, the web designer, as a person, a spirit soul, just like you, not some IT geek in a 12th floor office surrounded by servers and computers. No. I am on the first floor surrounded by one server and computers, "so much more personal" :)

Nevertheless, the whole approach here is to share with you, my experiences, my realisations, the sharing of SGGS assets. I hope it all works for you as intended.

Intended audience

It is considered that most of our visitors will be Srila Gour Govinda Swami disciples or followers, or other devotees familiar with krsna-tattva, and therefore no stranger to many of the technicalities of this bhakti-margha, although I would hazard a guess to say that it is not impossible for neophyte devotees and even the casual visitor to gain inspiration from this website.

We make no apologies to anyone finding the content difficult to follow, however, for the most part, it is pretty straightforward and self explanatory thus anyone with an interest in the topics will be able to comprehend it.

Sevamrta.com is designed as a low maintenance website wherein most of the content stays much the same but we periodically upload new lectures, as often as possible, for you to download and we encourage you to share them with other devotees just as we are sharing them with you.

We plan to upload every lecture at our disposal, a few at a time to avoid the bandwidth costs of "download hogs" who download everything all at once and leave us to service a big bill. Best if we upload a few at a time, so keep an eye on the latest dates on our downloads page to see if anything new is uploaded; there probably will be.

Practicing to be a lazy, good for nothing

I have retired from the web design business, closed down shop as it were, and so nowadays I am not too busy to convert tapes to digital format and upload them for the pleasure of the devotees. Nevertheless, I don't have unlimited time as I also work on other things, albeit at a much slower pace than in business, plus I take the opportunity to spend more time chanting, so please be patient if you experience the occasional unexpected gap in upload frequency. Our lives are never really our own to decide as we wish.
